In May 2009 Ms. Finn and Dr. Bria completed Digital Communication in Medical Practice published by Springer. This book is targeted to practicing physicians and outlines how electronic medical records and personal health records digitize patient information; thus making it possible for the physician to have all the relevant information on a patient whenever and wherever that patient seeks care. Topics covered include: email, patient portals, wireless mobile devices, and telemedicine, using evidence-based medicine, CPOE, e-prescribing, medication management and other new technologies to bring consumers better safer healthcare services. Digital Communication in Medical Practice also addresses legislative initiatives that protect doctors and patients from unauthorized access to medical records and provides discussion and analysis regarding quality initiatives in healthcare as well as the costs of delivering health to everyone. The purpose is to help clinicians understand how to use communication technology to address the issue of too little time, too many patients and too much information.
